Okay tomorrow is ADM count at the school I work at. What this means is that what amount of students are at school that day is how much the government will give the school to use to educate any child that goes to school. That means if a student is out we lose 5,000 dollars.

This sucks becuase by attending my school it means that the students get to take college classes for free... the school pays for it, if that student does not come to school tomorrow we get no money for him/her and still have to pay for them with other money. It is so not right.

I already know one child is going to be out of town. We have another home who hurt their leg, and will not be back till Monday. that means we have lost 10,000 dollars. That is the cost of an aid to assist in a classroom... As much as people say that schools already get to much money... sorry but we have no sports, all teacher have a club without extra pay, we spend the students to college on our dime, and the state wants to pick a day that will count for the amount of students we receive money for...The worse part is that tax payers have already paid for these students, now the government can use that money else where as the school picks up the bill for those students... Also we have not had a single student drop out of our school, so we are not getting money for kids who will be gone later...

Incase you wonder... we are 60 percent free/reduced lunch 63 percent minority... not like our parents can chip in and help...

in my school we are only allowed to have 400 or we will lose some of our out of school founding that allows us to do some of what we do..we need more still... this year we will have almost 170... we need about 5 more be able to get an extra teacher... and with any out we are that much farther away from a teacher... teachers make 32,000-56,000 depending on experience that we can afford to hire if it all works out...
 
The solution is simple Mike. Simply go out to some local mall and offer 2 kids 50$ bux a pop to just sorta sit infor the two that you are responsible for. What kids gonna pass up 50bux. Not too many. Just a thought, a shady one at that.
 
Sorry to hear about the difficulties with this type of system- hope it improves in the near future.
 
no, it has been this way for a long time... I never thought of offering kids money... funny thing... the gang task force went on raid in the inner city schools for truant students so they will go to school tomorrow for the count... just to be sure their school gets all the money they can... even if they do not come back again....
 
Why do you stay then? Personal satisfaction in making a difference? Is this a charter school?
 
Gang task force schmang task force. You gotta go send out the ''Mr. Dunagans gonna beat your punk *** if you dont show up for class so you can be counted and I can get paid'' task force. Place the fear of us IRISH in the heads of the kids.

great... my school is great... we have done some amazing this with our students for only being open for two years. We are a public charter school with means that we are just like a public school, without the perks... not allowed to have sports yet thanks to IHSAA. Unlike private schools we can not turn away kids... We have to score like all other high schools on test, plus get them ready for college a head of time. Plus we get no local taxes to pay for school, but we except students from the entire state if they can get close to a our bus stop or to school on own...


I LOVE THE SCHOOL!!!!!!!!! the gang task force was for schools a lot of our students left, not out students... so far gang free....
 
In Washington State, they send a paper home with the kids to be signed and returned. You guys have it rough in Indy it sounds. You should do incentive day on the day you need them there. Pizza, punch, ice cream, all you can eat! Fight fire with fire so to speak, and perfectly legal, AND remotely cheap to do.....
