A LFS has GATF available, these fish are not that common here. Are there any telltale characteristics that I can look for to be sure that what he's selling and what I may be buying is indeed a Hydrocynus goliath. Please remember that there are no other species here to compare it with. I'm hoping that there's something obvious, because from the pics that I see the only distinguishable difference is the stripes. The specimin is supposedly around 7 or 8 inches.

no stripes.
at that size,a vittatus will have very distinct stripes whereas a goliath will not.
also, goliaths will have much larger tails in comparison to vittatus of the same size.
also,goliaths have a more stocky,squarish head.

It's pretty much a moot issue now, since someone already purchased the fish before I could make my way to the LFS this weekend T_T
