I am an avid animal rescue person. I love animals. So when my friend said she was adopting another cat, I was happy for her. For the last few weeks she's gotten the house ready, got an extra litter box, all the usual stuff. She had been in contact with the owner who was paying for the spay, and shots, for a few weeks.
So she gets the cat of Friday night. It's infested with fleas. I try to walk her thru what he needs to do. (bathe it, and the others she has since it made contact with them, and then vacuum, and get drops for everyone, etc). "Nooooo.... I think she's fine with just the drops..." Fine whatever. So the original owner gave her money to have her spayed. Good! She took it Saturday morning to get spayed and vaccinated for rabies.
Then i got to work this morning and she said she gave it away. I asked why and she said her husband wouldn't help her. I said, "well he doesn't help with the two you had, what made you think this one would be different?" She said, "yea i know.... but also our cats don't like her". So I asked her if she took it back to where she came from, and she said, "No, we took her to the pound. I don't want her going back to where she came from. They had fleas."
I felt like saying "you dumb ***. They gave her a better home than she will have at the pound where she can now be exposed to other cats with a URI (upper respiratory infection) among the obvious being put down part. " But I couldn't. She said she didn't want to talk about it any more, and that she felt bad enough about it.
Fast forward a few hours. NOW....
She just told me she had her husband go to the pound and say she got lost, and picked her back up. Now, these are my friends mind you, but COME ON!!! That poor cat has been drug from her home, to a new home with other cats, that "don't like her", then to the pound with a bunch of other howling and hissing cats, then back to their house. Geez. That poor cat. For owners who claims to be so knowledgeable about cats, they aren't. Cats will not just warm up to a new cat in THEIR house. It takes time. It took mine old man a month to get used to the new cat.
Ugh. sorry just needed to vent. Thanks guys..
