I just picked up a 8-9" Fly River Turtle yesterday. I have him in my 300 gallon stock tank. I normally keep Styrofoam over the tank to help keep the moisture in and to help prevent mold build up on the walls of room the tank is in. I know I need some sort of lighting for the turtle. I need some ideas on what to do. I was thinking of uncovering a section and buying a spot light that comes on a stand and tilting into the uncover section. Would this work? I know this spot lights create a lot of heat too. I am also not sure if I would be able to get the correct bulb need for the turtle to fit on a spot light.

I was also thinking of getting a strip and building a stand for it across a section of the tank, this would really be the last option as it would take more time to do and I'd really like to be able to provide some short of lighting asap.

Why would u need lighting? dint think they bask , just go surface side for air or to lay eggs.

From my understanding some sort of lighting is still needed for a heather shell.

I recomend 2 things, first of I would use plexiglass insted of foam because your turt can eat chunks of it and get really sick, and second a good 5.0 uv florescent ligth will suit her needs just fine

He cannot get near the foam. I just put a 10.0 on. Is that ok? It's lighting up a majority of the tank.

How is he treating you? Did you try hand feeding him yet? Miss the fella already....

He's been good, not scared at all. He came right up to me this afternoon. I moved back a little and he turned around. I'm not sure if I did not move or not if he would have taken the food from me. How's the leo and aro?

Here is what I have done so far. Normally the water level is much higher, I was in the middle of a water change when I took the pictures.
