Used to have several tanks up and thriving. Just lost the itch, sold most everything (fish and equipment). Down to a 40 gallon breeder, and a 220 gallon.

The 40 gallon is tore down and sitting in storage, while the 220 is up and running with a Polypterus Senegalus, and a Striped Raphael Catfish.

Cannot decide what I want to do, what fish/setups to do, or just to sell everything and be done :irked:

The Raphael I have no real connection with, and could sell and or bring him to a lfs and hope they can find him a home. Would like to keep the Senegalus, she has a personality that is actually quite fun for being the blind bat she is.

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Wanting to get back into it, but something is just holding me up. Hoping it's my lack of creativity or something...

Thanks!

Ever think about doing a biotype tank for your poly?

I keep mostly SA/CA, so I wouldn't know what all that would entail; maybe a large group of congo tetra and 1 or 2 African butterfly fish?

Hopefully you'll get some more informed suggestions, lol.

Colony of frontosa and a stingray. I had a set up like this when I lived in NJ and I also had three different types of poly's in the tank.

go back to what got you into fish keeping... what about an oscar or two... a rescue there are so many out there crammed in tiny tanks up for sale, give an o a chance and do something worth while with the tank!-) sometimes it takes going full circle to know what you want.... remember when most of us first got a larger tank for larger fish usually cichlids particularly oscars because they have great personality and are great looking. i for one have lately been thinking after owning pretty much most cichlids available (on the hunt for rare and wonderful fish) that the best ones are the most readily available fish for a reason, because they are the most fun too keep.... if you have no relationship with the fish you keep why keep them because after you've impressed everyone on the forums who is sitting with them in their lounge every night. good luck i have been exactly where you are...

Solid advice!

You shouldn't even have to get rid of your poly for this either!

I keep a Senegal in my sa/ca along with 2 large O's and experience no problems with compatibility.

I liked the biotype idea, but I think this is it. Just surf Craigslist and find that oscar in a 20 gallon. I had a jack dempey and a pleco in a 20 gallon for the six years in college (with masters, not animal house style). My dad never did water changes. Once I came home and put him in a 125. He colored up, lost weight and became more active. Some people won't get the upgrade for their fish. Since you have a 220 you can do it for the fish. You also can get a nice fish cheap.

Clown loaches were the fish that got me really into fish. They were like a pack of puppies that knew how to use a litter box.... Then did Datnoids and really enjoyed them as well. Just business was slow and I thought would be better to sell while selling was good, and some time later things are good and now that summer is coming to a close. What better time to get back into it.

Never have really thought about Oscars, always just think of the stories of them bullying and eating everyone in the tank with them. Datnoids I had were pretty passive... other than when they ate the P Bass I tried to add... didn't realize they were small enough to swallow.

Large school of CL and a maybe 4 4-8" dats? Wouldn't be Oscar cheap but if you get them both smaller it would made for a pretty sick/interactive tank.
