My gachua snakehead attacked my needlefish today. It's all scratched up and missing half it's tail so I moved to a ten with baby apples snails and a few guppies. Is there anything I can do help it heal.
clean water and aquarium salt should do the trick, some people recommend melafix, but ive never used it, if the damage is as far as the base of the tail theres a pretty good chance it wont grow back, where'd you get your snakehead by the way? would like to own one, but the u.s of a makes it impossible to own one, wish i could understand the aqua bonita site.
K I have him in his own tank (yes it is cycled) and added melafix. I got my snakehead at Petland, they are commonly available on Canada, I have no idea why the snakehead attacked the needlenose cause it's been in a community for a month and never bothered anything until I added the needlefish, then it went all out and dragged the needlefish down to it's cave
never owned a snakehead since I live in the states too but regardless of what pet stores tell you I have never had a needle fish that was aggressive....aggressive to small feeders yes but to other larger fish no....I have tried keeping needle fish with many other types of fish...but in the end I couldn't even keep a golden gourami or a rainbow shark with them (i know they are semi aggresive but even my hoplo cat messed with them)...the three I had were between 8 and 12 inches and they still got picked on by four inch fish...when by themselves they may seem the king of the tank but when other fish are introduced they are just an oversized snack or a big toy...snakeheads, from what I have read are pretty much the most aggressive freshwater fish you can buy apart from the fahaka puffer and I could easily see one trying to make a needle fish a meal....when it comes to treating him I really hope he is small because a ten gallon is tiny and a needle fish can swim fast and needs lotsa room...raise the temp melafix and salt is all I can say when it comes to helping the guy out...they are a cool fish hope he does alright...sorry for the long post hope this helps
He is only about 4-5 inches long. And gachua snakeheads are one of the only snakeheads that are generally peaceful. Oh and I added some melafix to his tank
id like to own any kind of snakehead really, i always remember seeing them in pet stores when i was younger but never bought because not having a big enough tank, the red snakeheads were always availible and they get huge, now that i can own a bigger tank snakeheads are banned in the u.s
most likely swim bladder damage, if thats the case the fish will seem quite disorientated, ive never expierienced this problem, but my old roomate had an oscar with a damaged swim bladder and fixed the problem by feeding him deshelled peas, damaged fins dont usually cause fish to swim in that manner but i also have no expierience with needlefish
he was swimming fine yesterday but overnight the snails sucked on it and now it flips upside down if when it swims to long so I have him propped up in the leaves of a floating plant. Should I leave him I'd do u think I should euthanize it?
