how many needle fish do you have? are we talking about asian needle nose gars (not true gars)? they could be eggs. if they were white im guessing that they were no good. the white to means the eggs didnt hatch and had fungus. they dont really lay eggs in clumps. instead they lay them one at a time.....kind of stringy. they drop them anywhere. the male swims side by side with the female and fertilizes them as they are droped. mine laid over a 3 month period. the eggs were clear when first laid. i set up a hatchery tank and collected the eggs. most if not all the eggs hatched for me. was impossible to get them to eat. they wouldnt take bloodworms, water fleas, or brine shrimp. only thing they wanted was fish. newborn guppies were to big though as they couldnt fit the heads in their mouths. i even tried squeezing out baby guppies prematurely and stillk the heads were to big. i eventually got a few newborn cichlid babies (i forget what species) and finally got them to eat. they doubled in size after one meal and were finally able to eat baby guppies. the 5 or 6 that i got to this point all died suddenly from some unknow fungus in the grow out tank. if the eggs were fungus over there might still have been good eggs in your tank. perhaps they hatched already. keep a close eye out for little ones. although, i dont think they will live because of how smnall they are and the size food you need. i think the eggs took like 3 days to hatch or something. i forget but it was quick. look for continueous mating behavior. the side by side swimming. you should be able to see the eggs being dropped and the small cloud of sperm the male releases. (hmmm i think i remember seeing the sperm, been a while. i'll have to pull the video tap out
what do you mean? the eggs are just randomly dropped in the tank. tehy have a thread that conects like 2 or 3. good eggs are clear and easy to miss. heck, even when i was looking for them i missed a few which was evident by baby needlenose swimming in the tank. i can see a couple of random onse getting caught in the filter as they are dropped.
pictures would help to determine if they were indeed eggs. he said it could be his tetras. anyone know how tetras lay their eggs? needle nose eggs were pea size or a little bit smaller
