I just got home from my LFS with a new addition to my tank. It's a needlefish and he's about 5'' long right now and I just wanted to know the best way for me to feed him. I don't really have the space or extra tank to have a quarantine tank for feeders and I've read the risks about feeders bringing diseases into your tank if your not careful.

What's the best way to prevent this? Crickets? What's the best way to ween him off live food if necessary?

i've got a foot long needle and he will NOT eat anything besides feeders, hes swam after market shrimp but stopped when he see's that its not live

almost impossible to get the needlefish off feeders, but try and starve em for a few days and offer him something else thats your best bet

Yea I've tried getting my Needle to eat something other than feeders, but alas...it hasn't happened.

You're only chance is to do what bassmaster said and maybe starve for a bit but even then its only a maybe.

Well I have a Q tank but my needle usually snatches the feeder before it even has a chance to swim (~3 seconds in the tank lol). So there isn't necessarily a huge risk there as long as you net the feeders (since they aren't swimming around in your tank anyways)

You can also use preventative treatments too but I'm not sure if you want to be treating your needle all the time.
