yeah its normal might take a few days for it to eat mine did
for food it can be hard to get them off of live food but can be done i had a hard time what i did was waited for them to get use to me and eventually they would come to the glass when they saw me wan'ting food and mainly cause they were in with cichlids they would grab there food as soon as it hit the water so i mannadged to trick them after hand feeding them and haveing them grab food right as it hit the water i tossed in a rosy red and one grabed it them right after i threw in a piece of krill and one grabbed it the first few times they would spit it out but after not feeding them for a couple days they finally eat it from there they would eat shrimp worms krill and fish got them off of live food all together good luck with yours
I want a couple of needles and have done some research, apparently they are very picky eaters but will not starve themselves. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think killerfish pretty much said it all anyway lol.
I agree with Killerfish. I did the same thing to get my Needle to eat forzen foods. Just drop it in the water near their head and they will snap at it. Once it was in his mouth I guess he just assume he killed it then choked it down. I also would throw krill and silver sides in near the power jet. Since the food would move rapidly the Needle thought it was alive and would jump at it.
Now my Needle is off live food completely and even eats shrimp pellets, cichlid pellets, and hikari food sticks!
also these guys like a little salt in there water to stay healthy
my smaller one would eat pellets some times till he got one stuck in its mouth it was swimming around with a pellet stuck to its teeth finally got it off by him self but wouldn't eat pellets after that which was kinda of a bummer
