Needlefish

Anyone kept the south american needlefish? Mine is like brown with a black stripe. I already have him eating hikari sticks after just 1 day. Any special information about these guys that I should know?

VERY GOOD going on getting him on dry food!!!! Congrats! They are awesome fish - watch out for OTHER fish bullying him. And of course he will eat small tankmates like danios, etc.

hes with 2 Lima, 1 Senegalus, and soon to be 3 Yellow Tail and 2 Red Tail barracuda.....tank is 48x18x24...Ive always had good luck with fish and dry food. My hujeta was eating krill out of my hands along with pellets

how'd u get him on dry food? i've starved mine longer then i thought he could go and he still won't accept shrimp....even on a string made to look like a small fish.

What I do is ill take my finger and wiggle it to get them to notice it and take a stick and pull it through the water once i see interest ill throw it under the filter and they will usually hit it the 1st or second time. He loves these things man his belly is sooo full lol.
EDIT: i just threw 2 in and he watched them and nailed em lol

x24 Xenetodon will NOT take dry food whatsoever, as far as I know. This guy is different. Are you talking about the same fish ? (Likely a Boulengerella)

oh haha thats different, i have a needlefish haha. i thought about getting one of those since i love gars but can't get a tank big enough for a real gar....i suppose i might but my tank is gunna be overstocked when i'm done with it lol
