Needlenose Gar Feeding

Is the only thing a needlenose gar will eat is feeders? That's what I've been told, and thus that's the only thing I've tried feeding mine.

My friend was able to get 3 of the 4 he had on krill. The one would only eat feeders so he got rid of it.

Not sure about life expectancy 20 years or so id guess. As for feeding my gars eat shrimp and lance fish

If you are referring to Xenentodon cancila then for the entire 3 weeks that I owned one I could only get it to eat feeders and crickets. Very cool fish and very aggressive eater.

My needlefish ate his first piece of krill last night. It takes some time, but once they learn they can eat it they go with it. I tried feeding him today but he was really shy. He grabbed it after it fell off of my skewer and the puffers were finished picking at it.

So how'd you get him to realize that he can eat it? Mine only goes for rosy reds...

I put it on a shishkabob skewer and let the puffers go at it. When the ripped it off the skewer and it started to float away, I guess he figured they beat up a fish and he would finish the job.
