i have 3 needlenose gars/fish (i know they aren't true gars) along with a few other fish in a 90g tank. i threw in some live fish, shut the lights off shortly after feeding, and noticed one of the three gars was biting one of the others. All three gars are similar length, about 5-6".

has anybody had experience with a school of these fish or know why this behavior has occurred?

i was thinking maybe a territorial thing or a feeding behavior due to mistaken identity because the lights were off?

i heard that gars are more active at night, so maybe they are just playing with each other? when the gar bites, does it do some damage to the others?

sorry, just realised that you were referring to a needlenose. in that case, i have no clue.
