I am interested in keeping a breeding pair of neetroplus nematopus. I have a 30 gal tank that I was thinking about putting six in until I found a breeding pair. I was wondering if this size tank would be big enough to have them live in. And would they like sand or rock better? Also any other suggestions on keeping this fish would be appreciated.

They can get up to 4.5/5 inches apparently, although Ive never seen any pics of them that big.

I have 2 - 1.5 inchers in a 265 with about 12 other species of growouts, all under 4 inches and these guys are AGGRESSIVE. They have killed a 3.5 inch salvini and they refuse to think that the argentea at 4-4.5 inches is the head of the tank and are always trying to battle him. They have nipped all the fins on my 4 istlantum & 2 carpintis and mess with a grammodes pair.

I like them a lot and they are hilarious to watch. Seeing as you are going to do a species tank, you might not face these issues, but I do know they are conspecific aggressive as well.

Heres some good links that might help:
