Hi guys... I'm planning on getting these little critters soon having had some about 10 years ago... The plan is to establish a unique tank specially designed for their needs... It'll be shallow and rock with sand with a fast flowing current to represent a river bed feel.

So what experiences have you guys had with these little fellas... the "Pygmy Green-Eyed Cichlid"

They can be rough on each other and other fish. I've found that if there is a "threat" - real or perceived - that pairs are much more stable.

After breeding mine several times, I left the pair to raise their babies. All was well for a couple of months and then the male decided to shred his lady.

Otherwise, I keep mine at fishroom temp (about 74F) in tap water (pH 7.4, moderately hard) and feed NLS and occasional flake. They would benefit from a TOUGH barb or larger robust cichlid to make them feel comfortable in leaving the rockwork.
