All of my tanks have these unsightly little white worms on the glass i took a water sample to the lfs, he says they are nematodes and will not harm my fish. is he right or should i be worried? also for curiosity's sake i looked up info on our city water, and it turns out i am glad i have a water filter on my freezer door, the water dept. here freely admits that the nematodes come strait from the tap along with some other things i'd rather not drink.
so my questions are, are the nematodes harmfull? and if so how do i get rid of them?
also how can i get quality water on a large scale for my fish, i have far too many tanks to buy it a gallon at a time, i guess i need a really good filter, cuz the one in the fridge can't keep up, any suggestions?

There are lots of types of nematodes, some are harmful, most are not. If they are allowed in your city water they are probably one of the microworms which are sometimes cultured for fry food, This is what they look like magnified 10,000 times

even though they aren't harmful is there a way to get rid of the ugly little buggers?
i use my mag float to knock them off the glass before i do water changes, and suck them out with the gravel vac right now but they always come back

Many free swimming nematodes are salt intolerant (not all) and if they are 1 tablespoon salt per 5 gallons should help.
