Hey guys. i have a oppurtunity to get a group of these. i was reading about them and wanted first hand experience with these guys in terms of sexing? breeding? need for shells? tankmates? i was going to put them in a 55g.

Not much difference between males and females. Males are slightly larger. Relatively easy to breed. Mine spawned in a Zoo Med floating log that sunk. They are actually substrate spawners. No need for shells. Can be very nasty and territorial, especially when spawning and protecting fry. They do better in a species only tank. Spend most of their time near the bottom of the tank, so you probably could keep cyprichromis or paracyprichromis with them. The cyps and paracyps will occupy the upper levels of the tank.

Cool. thanks. i fell in love with them. i find them much more attractive than brichardis u usually see. i wanted a tangy so i was happy to find a unique rather hardly seen option to one. Ill def go back and try to get a few.
