I'm setting up a 55 Gallon tomorrow and wanting to keep one of these Neolamprologus tretocephalus in it and have the tank center around it. I am setting up two 125's here in the near future (i'm building the stands in the DIY thread now http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=175112 ). Do you really know of any tanks mates that will go with the tret in a 55? I'm guessing something that will be a little aggressive, but i've read that these guys aren't as aggressive if one is kept in a tank and not a pair. Something that would be able to survive with a ton of rock work inside it.

I was wanting to keep C. Moorii in one of my 125's, but I was afraid that the 55 would not be enough for them. I didn't know how fast they grow compared to other larger cichlids.

THoughts?

The tret will get along with most other relatively aggressive africans. They do calm down a bit if kept singlely but every fish is different. You should be ok with the C. moori in the 55g for a few months, possibly 6-7.

Other fish you could consider are leilupi, brichardi, other lamprologines and most of the malawi/victorians

Thanks guys, i'm tore now what to do with this 55....I have another thread going in the SA/CA, but I can get a 4"-5" Cichlasoma' bocourti also. It's in my LFS and has been there for about 4 months now. They would give me a deal on it for about $25-$30 for it and I really want to take them up on it. I'm setting up two 125's in the next few months (that pic on my avatar is the stands i'm doing as we speak). I want one to be SA/CA and the other of african lake. So, my problem now is to decide which one of the 125 tanks do I want to grow out in the 55 right now, if you see what I mean. I'm just afraid if I don't get the bocourti now, it will be gone when I go back to get it in a few months knowing my luck.
