Nerite Snails

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
While nerite snails are sold as freshwater snails, their eggs will only hatch in brackish water. If you're really serious about breeding them, try slowly acclimating them to brackish water and just keep feeding them. Eggs are small and yellowish, and they are laid one at a time scattered over a given surface like aquarium decor, plant leaves, or on the glass unlike other snails that lay eggs in a jellyish mass.

I wish I had more info for you...

May I ask where you got the crown of thorns nerite? I've been looking for some to add to my brackish tank.

Thank you for the info. I have them in a slightly brackish densely planted sailfin molly fry tank. After they get more comfortable I will try to raise the salinity slowly and see what happens. When I first put them in the tank didn't have very much flow and they didn't move around very much, so I increased the flow, and now they are zipping all over the tank. They don't seem interested in plants or flakes, just algae, but they have done an excellent job on the glass. the Crown of Thorns snails really like cleaning the anubias. Since its a fry tank I am keeping very close track of the water levels and doing frequent waterchanges. I hope they have some eggs.

The Crown of Thorn Nerites I bought at a store called Pet House in California. It is a chain, but all 2 stores are in California. If mine have babies you can have some, or I could buy some and ship them to you. The stores charges $8 each, if you want to do that. They have about 20 of them. I'll post some pics of my snails soon.
