hi i have a 7 inch ornate in a 48x15x15 tank with a clown knife fish 3 green terreors and a griaffe catfish and it never comes out if a peice of pvc pipe i have in there any hints or tips on how to get it to become nore confident??

Agreed. I hardly saw my Ornate, but if i did it was either at dusk or dawn.
 
my ornate hides every time I come near the tank. Mine is over 12" now. She doesn't freak out, just goes where it's harder to see her.
 
as long as there are hiding places in your tank, bichirs will tend to hide them selves, they are noctural fish. Besides green terreors and griaffe catfish are not good tankmates for bichirs.
 
same goes for my ornate. During feeding times with the light on, its very shy. But when I off the lights, throw in a few pellets and wait a few minutes, turn on the light, the ornate would be picking on the other bichirs :) *busted!!*
