I've been tossing these out for decades and replacing them but there's got to be a better way. Who's figured it out and what's the trick?

Seems a shame to toss another stainless steel frame when it's the cheapest part of the assembly that needs to be replaced.

I have sewn mines in the past (by hand, needle and thread), and it worked fairly well when damage was restricted to corners, or single hole elsewhere. When multiple holes in various places..,the end. I don’t have any to show now but my aquaristics began in Colombia in the 60’s. Nets were expensive and precious possessions. My mother made some with wire and mesh from the fabric store. They were white when new, brown from then on.

You Sir, had the right kind of mom.

My inherent cheapness forces me to try repairing stuff like that. Never had a net repair that was worth the time it took to do.

Nowadays, I use mostly the smaller sizes of nets sold for pond use; they seem a bit more heavy-duty in their construction. Still need to have some finer-mesh aquarium nets for fry use but only use them when absolutely necessary because I know they just won't last.

We need nets with airline round the corners to stop abrasion, but if it’s just round the corners then it’s no good for catching baby plecs. Needs to be all along the front edge too.

The net portion then gets protected from abrasion on sand, gravel and decor.

Have to hold my hand up though, I am often found using the net to remove gravel from my tanks instead of getting a sieve or a jug!
