Hi all
In looking at videos around the web about arowana, the general consensus is that one never uses a net to catch an arowana. From what I have seen the preferred method is to lure the arowana into a clear plastic bag floating in your tank. What is the specific reason(s) for this?

Its not that I plan on using a net any time soon, I'm just curious as to why netting is guite the no-no with arowanas in particular.

Thanks

hi there.
well, actually i think this method help much prevent damage to the fish. since using net to transfer will causes damage to scales, fins so on as if the fish struggle. in case of bag, it wont cause any since there is no rough surfaces. i transfer mine too and it works.
correct me if i m wrong, just to share

But is there something about arowanas that make netting worse than for any other fish? Do their scales tend to get snagged in nets moreso than other fish species?

Im not doubting, or trying to start controversy, it was just that in my arowana searching netting arowana was very frowned upon.

Ultimately, the no netting thing made me think there was something about arowanas that I did not know about, and I want to know what that is so I can be a better fish keeper for my arowana.

For example: The cheek spines on clown loaches can get snagged in nets. There was a point in my early days of fishkeeping that I did not even know clown loaches had cheek spines (they are hard to see unless you know to look for them). Is there something on arowana that is a similar problem?

Not sure either way is better. I think in most cases people don't have a net large enough or the net is too large to fit into the tank.

I think a koi sock would be the best solution. Thats gonna be my next investment.

anyone ever tried that method plus adding clove oil to make the fish fall asleep?
