Saw someone say "Happy Patriotism Day" isn't that the same as saying "Happy 9/11"?
Never heard of "Patriotism Day". Shouldn't that be everyday?
I remember being at work when the first plane hit. There was no TV. Then the 2nd plane hit and everyone knew it was terrorists. It was a very strange day at work. We got all kinds of info, but without seeing it,it was hard to imagine. I went to pick up my daughter from day care, she was 7 months old at the time, and saw what was going on. I had never known what it feels like to have ice water run through your veins until that moment. I sat at the day care for a hour watching.
I had to get gas on my way home, and there was a line at every gas station. When I finally got filled up and went in to pay,the guy at the counter told me there was not going to be any gas shortage. I had never considered there would be. I just needed gas.
The world was not the same after that. There were no planes in the skies for weeks. Then when they did start to fly,I noticed them. For months, every time I saw or heard one,I remembered.
After a couple of days, the feeling of Patriotism was strong for all of us. There were flags everywhere. "We Will Not Forget" was everywhere.
Now,9 years later, the planes don't make me remember. It's sad. My daughter is now 10. The only thing she knows of this day is what we have told her. It is just another day for her.
But I will never forget picking her up that afternoon 9 years ago. The anniversary of this always gives me that strange, scared feeling I had when I saw the long lines for gas. The little cocoon when live in here had been broken.
I hope none of us forget this day,and the feelings that come with it. If we do,all of those deaths will be in vain.
This is my memory of this day. What our yours?
