I have a 55g with a few fish I'm going to transfer to a smaller tank so the 55 will be empty. I want to fill it with either Oscars, Jack Dempsey's, Red Terrors, and Green Terrors. I would like to do a combo of some of them but don't know much about there aggression and who would fit in with who. I have spotted some nice Green Terrors at my LHS that I'm going to defiantly go with. what and how many would you go with in a long 55g?

As an adult only one of those fish would work in a 55, and them a 75 would be optimal.

As juviniles you could keep one of each, but I would just pick the one you like the best and that would be the only one that would really work.

thanks for replying, I plan on getting juviniles 1.5-2.0". i like your idea of getting one of each and seeing what i like, then the rest could be sold.

This is if either one of the juvies doesn't rip the rest in to peices before you decide. I wouldn't go with all them juvies and decide which one you like. Research first, then decide. I have a feeling the red terror would reak havoc on all the fish in there.

A 55 gallon tank is kind of an inbetween tank for most of these fish. They will be ok in a 55 for a while, but most of the above mentioned will definitely need bigger, even as singles. If you're lookin at just one in a 55, i'd also say a GT, or a JD. If you are looking at keeping multiples of these fish you will need to upgrade eventually. Otherwise you could look at different cichlids that don't quite get so large. I really like convicts. I know they are everywhere, and it seems like everyone has one, but for good reason. Good luck and keep us updated.

I agree, a 55 just isn't enough for most species even if you plan on only keeping a single fish in there. It would last you for 5 or 6 months then you'd begin having problems.
You could put in the convicts, but that is just a trouble load of babies, maybe firemouths, I personally like cockatoos, smaller and very very cool looking plus not many people I know have them.
