Never seen this before.....have any of you?

I have been on the hunt for an eight foot tank......I found one on craigslist and went to check it out. The owner said he got it from an old man who upgraded to a bigger tank. No idea of brand or age.

now my question is that on the bottom there is an extra layer of glass all around the edge of the tank.....the tank has never been drilled so it is not resealed in any holes. The glass is a 1/2 inch. I thought it was weird that there was this extra glass around the whole bottom of the tank about 3 inches all the way around.

There is no black border around the entire top or bottom and just bare glass, except that there is black in the fron and sides. Some type of broder that was silicones on. I am guessing that someone built this one......just seeing if anybody knows any brands of tanks that use this technique along the edge of the bottoms of the tank.

My other guess is that the tank began to leak, so he resealed the whole bottom of the tank but put glass around the whole bottom to strengthen it.

any ideas?

This is definitely a tank made from them. I really haven't seen any big companies that do bracing like that.

ya from the website looks like glass cages.....What do you guys think is a fair price for this tank? New on the website is $657.

Its in decent condition....few scratches nothing that will be noticeable with water in it.....the glass is not the upgraded option on the website.....

no glass tops....stand will need resanded and stained.....its definetly a project.
