Hey everyone. Just wanted to share with everyone how aggressive jardini aros are. I have a 13-14" Jardini, ornate bichir, pleco, and 2 oscars in my 240 gallon tank. I have a friend who's moving and needed someplace to keep his 6 inch African Pike. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=35 I told him I can watch it for him until he gets his tank set up. I figured that the pike was big enough to be in my 240. I put the pike in a plastic fish bag and put it in the tank to float. As soon as the bag hit the water, bang, the jardini rips a hole in the bag. I figured the jar didn't know what was in the bag and just bit it because he was hungry. I put the pike in another bag and tried again. After 20 minutes, I figured it was time to let the pike out. As soon as the pike left the bag, there was an explosion of fish scales. The jar was chasing the pike and biting it. Now I'm standing on a stool chasing the pike with the jardini still trying to get it. I finally caught the pike and decided to set up a separator with egg crate and suction cups. Came home an hour later, egg crate barrier has been knocked down and the pike was hiding in the corner with it's tail and body all beat up and the jar had scratches from the egg crate. Set up divider again with more suction cups and no problems since. Also, the pike is doing well and eating very well. Thanks for your time, The Doctor.

Thats crazy... glad to hear the pike is o.k. :)

Now I'm interested in having a tank of African Pike. Another reason why these fish interest me is because they can be trained to eat dry food pretty easily. I'm feeding my friend's pike floating sticks and dried krill. Finally, I can have fish with wicked teeth and also not have to feed it live food. Maybe I can talk my friend into leaving the pike with me. :naughty:The Doctor.

Wow.. Thatz wild

Hope the hope makes it!

FYI - I know of a school of pikes for sale in my area, if you are interested pm me!

The first is a picture of my jar, eyeing the African Pike next door. The other two are of the damage my jar did to it. The good new is that the pike is eating everything and everytime I feed him. I think he's going to make it, The Doctor.

Home Depot, Lowes or similar. It's sold as lighting diffuser in the lighting section.
