Ok i bought a 55 gallon with a stand at a garage sale, then found out it was used for reptiles, i had it filled for 1 week and running, it had no brace or lid, so i was looking for a peice of plexi glass, to be the brace, but when i went to adjust the brace, and get better measurments, the tank all of a sudden cracked, a hugE 8 inch crack shot water all over my basement floor! luckly i had it cycling and it had no fish, and i was getting a s rhom 2 weeks later. so i had 1 week to get a new tank! after i got my new 45 gallon tall, i got the s rhom and it ended up being a s martiganus or whatever, and it had 1 eye!!! lol, so always check your lfs fish, and make sure ur getting what you pay for, same with tanks, never ever use a reptile tank!!! :nilly: :nilly: :chillpill:

I think the lesson here is make sure your used tank is in good shape..Without the top brace a 55g tank bows out a good 6" easy to notice and an instant clue to take the water out and fix it.
btw they sell replacement tank frames for a 55 for about $13

2 of my 10's and my 55 are reptile tanks. Been working over a year...guess im lucky..

I had bought a reptile tank w/out any problems. Just have to inspect it before you buy.

Terrariums / Reptile tanks aren't designed to be filled with water!

This means they use thinner glass and may not have the braces on top. If you fill them with water you're putting FAR more weight and stress on the glass then you're supposed and are just asking for trouble.

When you get a used tank make sure it is an aquarium and not a terrarium.

it needed the top brace.
NOW YOU KNOW(God's voice imitation)
