Hi all, I am replacing my 75g tall acrylic tank with a 5ft 100 gallon glass tank, I'm looking for some stocking ideas and backgrounds/plants.

I currently have a lot of pool filter sand from my 75 and another bag that I could wash if I wanted, but I want it to be a fairly thin layer for little gas build up. Also a bunch of fake plants, I'm not sure if ready to get into a planted tank just yet.

The only stock I have to put in the tank is my 3yr old Senegal bichir at 7 or 8 inches.
I've kept:
-EBJD with her before but it would pick on my poly so tht didn't last long
-Albino tinfoil barbs who would outcompete sometimes, needed more than 3 maybe
-bgk was really fun to keep but too sensitive imo
-bala sharks were nice and easy
-clown loachs I wouldn't mind again
- I would loveeee to get some more polys, probably upper jaw for this tank such as a Palmas/ del/ tuegalusi nothing too huge I guess.

I've wanted an Oscar for sometime but I woukdnt want it to get picked on by anybody.
A gar would be pretty sweet.
Also, I need ideas of what to do for a background like should I paint the backside and what color to go with the tan pfs and large rocks of grano-diorite.

Go for an oscar, hard to be disappointed with them :)

I think I will, and then maybe pick up 2 or 3 upper jaw polys from mike sema, thanks :)

Bump, recommendations for painting glass anyone?

I had an Oscar with my bichirs. Got rid of it BC it was way too messy and food never got to the bottom.

I say go for some geophagus.

geophagus are s$@%. they won't do anything for your bottom. besides leave poop on it. No fish truly cleans the bottom as well as a vulture catfish

Hmmm okay. Never kept a catflsih before
