I just picked up a new tank yesterday and I am losing sleep trying to design the filtering set-up that I want to use... If it were a standard size tank and stand, I would have more options the trouble is the tank is hexagon with a flat back and the cabinet interior is restrictive. I do not want any filtration out side of the cabinet. I currently have an fx5 that can be used on this tank and the tank does have an center overflow. The interior cabinet dimensions are as follows... It may help to draw it... along the back wall is 59 inches, along the front wall is 42 inches. at the center of the cabinet, front to back is 16 inches. at the ends of the cabinet, from the back is 8 inches until the angle to the fron begins. from either corner at the back if you move toward the middle 4 inches, from that point to the angled wall is 12". Finally, top to bottom is 27 inches.... I am open to all filtering ideas, as long as it is all contained in the cabinet...

that's an odd sounding tank... I'd be interested in seeing a pic.
if it's got the overflow, you can always design your own sump. but I don't really see any reason for you not to use the FX5. I'd probably put the return over the back and split it so I don't end up with a whirlpool type effect around the overflow. you could end up with the water level in the center lowering as the outer edges raise up a bit. you think the water has evaporated and top it off, power goes out and the water level equals and you've got a flood.
I'd split the output to two, with the output flows opposite around the overflow.

ah, so like half a hex. well you can ignore the whirlpool stuff, nothing you'll need to worry about.
the fx would work fine. it looks big enough that you could probably fit a 30G-40G underneath if you wanted to go with a sump.

Thats a nice looking tank and I agree with the guy above I would run the FX5 and you should be good to go.
