Hey guys I just bought a 110g tall. I am looking into purchasing 2x Fluval 305 canister filters. Any thoughts on this set up? :nilly: Or other suggestions. It will eventually be a salt water tank with sump and overflow but for now i'm very happy with cichlids.

5 x cichlids: 4 are 3", 1 is 5"
1 x african rope fish: 6"
1 x plescostomus : 6"

and of course feeder fish at different times.

It really depends on if you plan on expanding your stocking level, but you might want to add a little more to that. I would recommend a HOB that is easy to maintain for some extra Bio.

Any thoughts on tapping this tank now, and making the overflow and setting up a refugium? Helpfull or just a waste of money for freshwater? Like i said eventually the tank will be salt water so i'm up for anything. But i don't really want the filter and things i'm buying now to go to waste later.

Then go for it. You don't really want canister filters for salt. The bigger the better for a sump or refugium. I would make a big sump that you could add a refugium to. Or just do it all now.
