Hey i just picked up a new 120 gallon rr tank, it has built in overflows, predrilled, a AMAZING overkill stand... and an 80 gallon sump. lol.
Ok so first off, its still in the process of being finished, because the stand was not finished, no plywood or trim.. and also the tank was filthy , i just cleaned it out with tons of bleach and vinegar. lol (dont worry i know all about bleach and fish).
But my question is.. im planning on keeping 7 - 10 discus in it... and i was thinking.. that would be sort of bland.. i would probably like some other fish... so, im wondering what would be good tank mates, e.g. cory cats/ect.
and also, the best type of lighting i should use for discus... (no live plants- i want it low maitenance) i think ive figured out the substrate and all, but the other things im not too sure about.
So im up for suggestions:popcorn:
Oh did i mention i got it for 120 bucks? ^.^

Hey, congrats on the good deal. I love 120 tanks. Is is the 4'x2'x2'?
I am not sure discus is a great idea if you want the tank low maintenance. Allot of people on MFK would say one way or the other but most of the discus guys will tell you that frequent feedings and a heavy water change schedule is required to keep them, especially with 10 of them. That's allot of bioload on a 120.

If you do decide to go the discus route anyway, corys would be fine as well as other pieceful fish with the same water perameters.

yeah its 4 x 2 x 2 ,and i didn't mean low maintenance for the fish, i meant low maintenance for the plants/etc, but thanks for the reply, i know all about discus, just not what are good tank mates. :D

great deal! I recently bought a tank with the same dimension also. But I turned it into a saltwater set up. Some coralife colormax would show some colors on the discus.

planted discus rms tetras cories ottos

tons of rock/driftwood + sand bottom tons of mbuna and 1 synodontis catfish

firemouths severums jags festae convicts (not all are compatible but a combo would be nice)

sand bottom small amount of decoration lima catfish bichirs eartheaters large barbs south american lungfish (not all of these are compatible but a combo of these would be nice)

i think those are 4 solid options
