Just picked up a new 120 with stand and everything, totally loaded, 2 canister filters etc/...

Anyway, I first brought all the fish he had in there and put them in my 55 with my 3 RBP's, 1 jack dempsey didnt make it, 1 frog was eaten, and a sucker fish died as well.

The 2 plecos, blue lobster, pacu, knife fish, albino frog and 2 oscars are still alive and well.

Now comes the tricky part, towards the end of the night, oscar #2 began just sitting on the bottom in the 55, i put him in the 120 gal last and he is still doing the same thing while the rest of the fish are hapily exploring their new territory.

Here's my 2 questions.

Will the oscar be OK? (pic enclosed)

Can this many different species co-exist in this size tank. I initially purchased this tank because my poor Red devil had been in a 18g for the past month, so he is in there as well.

TIA for any help.

For size refrence, that pacu is probably 15"+

It's probably just sulking..give it some more time.

:iagree: about the oscar, it is just sulking. the older the oscar the longer it will sulk. in a week or 2 it should be ok providing the tank and water are ok. :)

now, if I read correctly the 120 gallon currently houses a red devil, 2 plecos, blue lobster, pacu, knife fish, albino frog and 2 oscars right? if so, then the pacu will eventually grow much too large for a 120. pacus can grow up to like 3 feet long and being a circular fish they also grow that tall as well. they are incredibly stocky fish and really should be left to monster tanks or public aquaria. I would get rid of one of the plecos just because they also grow very large (18-24" depending) and are waste machines. also as they reach adulthood they don't do nearly as well at eating algae as they do when they're younger. the red devil and oscars may or may not get along, it will all depend on the personality of the red devil. they can be extremely aggressive and not allow any tankmates, or they can also be somewhat tame and do ok with tankmates. females generally do better in a community setup than males do. :)

Im pretty sure the RD is a female, thats who the tank was intended for. But I had to take her out because she was beating up on everyone. I inherited all of the other fish, so if i can get rid of them i will.

That oscar died later that night unfortunately :(

sorry to hear that about your oscar. some bigger fish will adapt better to a move than others. did it look like it had been bitten at or picked on? I'd guess it was stressed from the move and the other fish (who adapted quicker) started picking on it stressing it even further. that's just speculation though, there could have been something wrong with the oscar. hopefully the rest of the fish will be ok.

I have no idea, all the fish were temporarily in my piranha tank, but my piranhas are the biggest bunch of wimps you've ever seen, they just huddled in a corner the whole time.

The pacu at one pt was laying upside down, so i used a net to turn it right side up and its been fine since then.

On a totally different note, does anyone know how/where to get a tank divider for a 120g, i feel really bad having a 6" red devil in an 18g bowfront.

eggcrate...you can find it in the lighting or ceiling tile area of your local hardware store like Lowes or Menards. it comes in 4 foot by 2 foot sheets for like $8. to give you an idea of what it looks like, I used eggcrate to make the box/cave in the below picture.
