hey guys I finally got my tank up and running even though things arent exactly like what I had planned, I had to make changes in order to get this going I was really tiered of having the tank sitting in my garage for 2 months, so theres no doors on the home made stand or paint for that matter and no background on the tank and not nearly enough structure in the tank but its finally up and I'm happy about that, hope you guys enjoy the pix. the electric cat didnt want to come out and take pictures today so maybe next time but he's growing fast and healthy.

thanks there's so much I want to do with this tank but I think what it needs first is more filtration, so I'm looking for a good used or just cheap canister filter to handle the bio filtration all I have for now is two power filters and some sponge filters on powerheads. but like I said before I'm happy for now, or until I find I good deal on a bigger one.:)

The pbass look very good :)

I have to disgree. The cichla are fat.. but size can never be a good source to determin how well a cichla is doing. Color is the only real value we have when it comes to cichla health..

they look extremely dark and dull, which makes me think the water quality isnt up to where it should be, and because this is a "new" set up, I suspect there is some NH3 or NO2 problems.

I would personally do a 80% water change to help things adjust. Keep an eye on those test kits.

good luck.

I had to use all the filtration that I had on their 60 tank for this one so there was no time for cycling in the tank, what I did was use all the water from their 60 and top off the rest of the tank with new water, I also kept the same filter pads running on the filters for the time being but I figured the tank would still need to turn over seeing how all the gravel is new but I wasnt sure if doing a water change now would benifit the cycle of the tank or hurt it more. The water is still cloudy now but the tank has only been running since last Wednesday. I will do tests tonight when I get home and maybe someone here can advise me as to wether or not do a water change. The pbass are not fat ever since they got into the bigger tank they decided to start eating tank mates I'v lost a spotted gar and a pike cichlid to them in the short time theyve been in there. thanks for the help and the comments.

Just one more question regarding PBass' comment doesnt food have alot to do with cichlid coloration? I used to feed them the Hikari Cichlid Gold but I have as of the past month or so changed to the Staple can this affect color? thanks for any advice you can give me and I will post the water test results later cuz I dont really know what I'm looking for in that and I will need some help with that as well. Thank you all so much for your help.
