I'm going to be setting up a new 125 gallon aquarium next week with a planned stock of SA cichlids. I'll probably start with an FX6, which should be enough considering the eventual stock will be all juveniles to start with: ~6 Geophagus Tapajos, one Chocolate Cichlid, one Rotkeil Severum that's currently in my 75 and maybe a couple of Rainbow Cichlids (yeah they're CA vice SA, but should be ok with the other fish...jury's still out on adding them).

I've had a 75 gallon running for about 2 months. It has 2 AC110s that have been running just fine with two juvenile Angels, the juvenile Rotkeil, four Lemon Tetras, and 11 Celebes Rainbowfish. I swapped out the carbon in one of the 110s with Purigen and Biomax a couple weeks ago and then swapped out the carbon for filter floss and Biomax in the other 110 a couple days ago.

My fishless cycle took about a month in the 75. I'll do it again if I have to for the 125, but is there anything I can do with one of the AC110's (either with the entire filter or media) to speed up the cycling process for the 125? I'm not sure if removing the AC110 from the 75 and using it for the 125 while the FX 6 builds up enough bacteria to handle the new tank is wise...is a 110 even enough for a 125 with a light bioload? Do I stand a chance of screwing up my 75 by taking away one of the 110s? Is there enough space in an FX6 to just put some of the established 110 media in the filter to help get it going? Or should I just suck it up and break out the ammonia again?

Thanks.

I would just move all stock and put both 110s plus the fx6 on the 125 same day and add seachem stability....i trust it over api quick start .......ive upgraded tanks this way and never had a problem

I would recommend the same but the op wants to keep the 75g going.

Not sure what kind of media is in the 110, but if it is bio max/ceramic, I would put that in the fx6 and add the fx6 to the 75g for a few days. Then move 50g of 75, the fish, plus one 110 and the fx6 to the 125g and you're good to go. Check water for the first few days and do some wc

Except for the Rotkeil the rest of the fish will stay in the 75. The Rotkeil may move when I put the first of the new stock of fish in the 125.

Great suggestions though. Thanks!
