Hello everyone, first post here. Got a new (to me) 150 gallon tank, dual overflows. It's an AGA, came with the stand and canopy, however I've opted to build my own stand. Used KingofDIY Joey's design for the stand using 2x6, with some slight variations for holding my 55g long on the bottom for the sump. Just got done tonight doing the plumbing, decided on utilizing one of the bulkheads for the return line, and running a manifold line along the top of the tank. Used the remaining 3 bulkheads for 2 durso, and one full siphon. All lines have unions, and ball valves. Next comes adding sump walls, and media, and finally water for a fishless cycling before finally adding in the Mbunas. This is by far the largest tank I've ever done, and I'm starting to get nervous about the sheer amount of water/weight. I have had water to the top, I know it holds fine no leaks, however I noticed the trim on both bottom and top, is cracked pretty much in the same spots top and bottom (as if the previous owner possibly didn't have it supported evenly). Should I be worried about structural integrity of the glass at this point? Does the trim actually serve a structural purpose? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard
Great job on the stand and sump build.

Welcome to MFK!!

Congrats on the build and stand!! I cannot see any cracks in the trim even when magnifying your pic, where are they at?

The 55G sump tank is made by O'Dell so that is definitely an oldie but goodie and in case anyone asks, that tank never had center supports. ?

Thanks for the welcome!

Attached some pictures of the trim cracks. There's 7 cracks total, one pretty much at each center support, top and bottom. Only the top right front isnt cracked.20200411_232130.jpg20200411_232145.jpg

Thanks for the added pics!

The top crack pic is at an angle and may be stress or age related whereas the bottom crack pic appears vertical and may be normal.

Can you measure the tank width at the left, middle and right to see if the measurements are the same when filled with water and empty? This may give you an idea of whether the tank is bowing when filled with water.

That's a good thought, I'll do that when I'm ready to fill again. I decided to be extra ambitious, and finish the remodel behind the tank, as well as redo the floor before finalizing the tank. This way I dont have to worry about moving when I want to remodel the rest of the area it is in. 20200412_105705.jpg
cut out this section of floor directly under the stand, had a small bit of warps as well as a soft spot.

Extra bracing for the new plywood.

New paint and floor

Excuse the mess, everything is everywhere while I build.

Definitely a great call on the blue paint! :grinyes:

Well, the tank was slightly unlevel front to back. Took the whole thing down, took the floor apart, and am now waiting for the floor leveler to dry. Crossing fingers!

Poured the self lever, it was pretty straight forward.

Perfectly level, full and running. Just gotta add the baffles to the sump and get my bio media together and let it cycle for a while. Gonna seed with from my 75. Eventually Ill get around to buying a nice sheet of ply, and finishing the stand off. But for now, IT LIVES!
