Well after months of looking far an incredible deal on a used 180... I just brought one home today!!! I cant wait to get it set up. I still need to build a stand for it first though so I picked up some nice oak today too and with any luck it will be up and running before the end of next week!

I realy have no point here, I am just exited!

congrats dh, sure it was worth the wait.

man i know how you feel...i can remember how excited i was when i found my 150 complete with a stand and all layin in a dumpster lol i went home and got my dads truck and loaded it up right there and didnt tell them lol

Congrats :) Have you ever built a stand ?

Congrats :)

Have fun stocking it.

The tank is a standard 180 72"x24"x24"

I have never built an aquarium stand before but I am good at working with wood (my grandfather was a carpenter so I built lots of stuff growing up) I have looked over the comercialy available stands and the one that I am building will be much sturdier than many of them so I am not worried about that. The biggest reason for building my own is that I will have a top notch peice of furnature that will look great in my living room for a little more than half of the cost of the cheapest comercial stand. I have purchased red oak plywood that was on special for a few bucks more than standard spruce! It is blemished on one side but that will not show when I am finished. Oak trim was regular price but still way cheaper than buying a fancy stand/hood. I will post some pics when it is complete. (which may be awhile as due to other commitments my goal is to complete the main body of the stand right away so I can start using it then get to the cabinet doors and hood as time permits)

As for stocking it. I will be moving fish out of my heavily overstocked 80 gal since they are now big enough that they are starting to get nasty with each other (I did not plan on keeping them in there as long as I have)

So what I am thinking is keep my Jag, a Convict, and my 7 fancy Cory cats in the 80 gal. Then put my Pbass, Amphilophus Lyonsi, FH (temporarily), JD, GT, and my new RT in the 180. If the RT runs havock in the 180 I will switch him and the Jag around. Any thoughts about that?

wet dry....
