Hi MFKs... I just setup a 6x2x2 tank with a 55g sump. The pumps I use is one Quiet One 4000(1000GPH), one Eheim 1262(900GPH) and one FX5. I try to get 6x turnover from my sump, the problem is my Discus having trouble with the current in the tank.

How can fix the strong current in my tank without using a valve?
Am I using the right pumps for my tank or these pumps are over kill?

Please advise, thanks!

BTW right now I have 6 2"-3" Discus, 3" Datnoid. 1 10" Arowana on the way.

With head height figured in your probably turning your tank around 10x hr. That's what I shoot for for my pleco setups. Probably a little overkill for your stock. The only other thing your could try is to build spray bars for your sump returns. Attach them to your outputs and face them towards the back wall of the tank and down. The fx5 is a different story, but I'm sure you could figure a spraybar setup for it as well.

You may want to try running one sump pump too

Sounds like a great set up.^^^^I like the spray bar idea^^^^sounds like the thing to try. I personally wouldn't try to spraybar the Fluval though...but that's just me. Curious about the quiet one 4000 + eheim 1262 noise levels? Are they as quiet as they claim? I've been trying to find some quiet pumps and it's frustrating.

Quiet One's I have heard are not always so quiet... lol... Eheim are quiet and of course the Fx5 is quiet. If they start making noises I'd just give them a quick cleaning without disturbing the media.

I don't know about claims, but I use a pair of q1 6000's and they are very quiet. Tank is in our main living space so it had to be quiet. Ehiem does make a very good pump as well, I just needed something bigger than they offered for this tank.

If your discus are having trouble swimming, you have too much water movement in your tank. Discus come from slow moving water. Unless something is done to decrease the water movement, your discus will not last long. They will expend too much energy trying to swim. Your mixture of fish is not that great either. I wouldn't mix discus with a datnoid nor an arowana.

Finally I got my water movement slow down a lot guys. I took the advice of doing something similar to spray bar but not quite exact. Here is what I add to the tank... instead I have a return pump straight into the tank, I moved it up to my new eco plants filter and it works great guys... I am very please with the result. All the fish are very happy now :)
