i put the lights inside the stand because this tank is going in the back patio and im tired not of being able to see inside my 100 gal stand when servicing.
ill throw some more pics up later of the entire build. the stand is heavy as crap though! i think it was kinda sweet to use all left over materials to create this thing. even the 5/8" foam siding under the tank because the stand wasnt exactly level i wanted. i also built 55gal wet/dry conversion.
fat 8" lag bolts to hold this thing together. then i caulked the bottom panel in so if i do overflow, then stand will hold almost 20 gal of water. its up and cycling now. my fish will appreciate the footprint, 60"x30". i just threw in some of my gravel from my 100gal, but im probably going to run 1" sand and some driftwood pieces.
anyone have any ideas for drain screens besides the bulky screens that are made for the bulkheads? im trying to keep as much out of the tank as possible, because i keep a paroon and he just shattered a glass heater two weeks ago freaking out during a water change. i just have the single pvc 1" return mid way down. any ideas to improve on something someone may notice.
Not sure about the screen but if youre concerned about the fish breaking your heater again try getting stealt heaters, they blend in with black backgrounds, work great and dont break as easy because they are plastic. BTW I saw your post about free stuff and I totally agree with you i think its fine to keep a fish that will get huge in a small tank as long as he doesnt stay in there forever. BTW you said you were getting an emperor cichlid, are you talkin about the ones that get up to like 3 ft? If so know where I can get any, been looking for a while but cant seem to find any.
thanks bro, i found it a couple weeks ago just going into one of the best lfs here in san diego. they said they've had it for over a year. its actually in the back corner of the store cramped up in a sectioned off tank with a p.bass and frontosa in the other section, had to pick it up. i had to convince them to hold it for me for 1-2weeks because my 230 setup was kinda rushed because i moved. you may just have to go to one of your local stores and ask them to order.
