So I just bought a new 29 gallon tank with everything included and am planning on moving my gar into it... I know I have to let it cycle first but I dont want him in my 90 right now. So I bought some instant bacteria stuff that makes it instantly cycled. I havent put it in yet or set up my aquarium yet but if I do tonight and put in the instant cycle would it be ok if I put the gar in there tonight? or should i ignore that instant stuff and let it cycle on its own and put him in a few weeks?

Florida gar. Got him yesterday and he can eat! ...but I really want to move him out of the 90 asap i don't want him hurting himself. I have plexiglass to make a separator but it is too big i have to get it cut...

get some biomedia (sponges, other filter media) from your 90g tank and put it into the filter of your 29g, that will be a surefire way to make sure it is ready to go...or at least handle the bioload of the gar. small gars (and only the smallest should be going into a 29g anyway) are extra sensitive to ammonia and pH fluctuations, so your new tank syndrome would likely kill the fish or indirectly cause issues that would.
transplanting of biomedia is how i usually seed all my tanks, and it works well as long as the media transplanted is more than enough to handle the bioload of the fishes in the new tank (which should be easy to do from 90 to 29g). you can add the instant stuff as well, but i wouldn't rely on it as the only thing keeping that tank suitable. good luck--

how would i put in stuff from the other tank? I have a bio wheel and filters in my 90 and only a small filter in my 29... do I just soak my filter from 90 in my 29 tank or filter?

Place some of the filter media from the 90 gallon by the intake for the filter on the 29 gallon or even in the filter for the 29 gallon provided that it will fit.

x2 what they suggested.. take the filter pad out of the dirty one, and shake it in a bucket.. then dump the gunk into the back of new filter ( so it gets lodged into the filter. i would also run the filter for the 29 on your 90 for a few days then xfer the filter, and 1/2 the water to fill the 29 from your 90... topping it off with treated water. and do 25% WC every 3 days for the first 14 days.,.. monitoring your water quality before each wc to build up a base line.. when your wate is consistantly 0 ppms of ammonia and nitrites.. re-evaluate how long it takes between wcs for youe nitrayes to hit 30ppm... it sounds like alot of work but once you get in the swing it will take maybe 1 hour per week of your time. i would also suggest putting the tank off to the side in an area thats relatively quiet,to avoid un-needed spooking until he adjusts.

What I usually do when I get a new tank is: I take some water out of my old tank and but it in the new one, then I fill the rest up with tap water trow in a filter and a heater then I add the fish in the next day
