Hi, this is my first post on MFK but i've been reading the forums for advice for quite some time. I found a couple usefull posts concerning lighting but honestly I'm still confused and if anyone has the time to provide some help specific to what I am trying to do it would be greatly appreciated. I recently purchased a 300 gallon glass aquarium that is 96" long 24" wide and 30" tall and I've been trying to figure out how much and what kind of light I should put over it. I intend on it being a heavily planted freshwater aquarium. I would like to be able to grow some plants that require "high" levels of light in atleast some areas of the tank. I have a lot more questions but I will leave it at that for now. I realize that some choices may come down to personal preference but I would really like to know what some other people would do.

welcome to mfk i would go with ho t-5 or metal halide lighting that will give you the most power for a tank that big with good depth penetration

-I agree

Agreed with the t5 or metal halides, most plants need 3 watts per gallon, but with a tank that deep I'd prolly do 4 or 5 watts per gallon
