I got a new 35g that I'm making into a FOWLR tank.

Now, I was thinking of going bare bottom,..can I do that? Is it better to have sand? Ups and downs?

And what would be some stocking options for preditory fish.

You can go BB, its personal pref.. I like sand.. You could go with a small eel, dwarf lion, you have alot of options, depends on what you like..

I was thinking a dwarf lion, maybe a trigger or two, maybe a something else?

With fish like those what would I use as a "clean-up crew"?

IMO, I would not get a trigger.. Unless you plan to upgrade.. You can get some gobies or snails, larger inverts... I would go to a LFS and look around.

its going to be hard to do a pred tank because most fish that you could keep will eventually outgrow that tank and will be in need of an upgrade. What would be easier is to just run a small reef or a fish only tank with smaller type gobies, wrasses and other reef friendly small in size fish.

I have a 14G reef tank with corals, I like the corals in the small tank, I want fish a live rock only in this. I could upgrade later if I needed too.
