I just got a new 5 inch red to go with my other three. He is about a half to one inch bigger than the rest of them and as been in the tank for about 6 days. Unfortunetly, he seems very shy and anti-social. He refuses to explore the rest of the tank and stays hidden under a piece of driftwood, if anything comes near him he either ducks away, or nips at them and retreats. I thought after a few days he would be over this, but he's still in the same spot! I'm nervous that he is not eating. I'm also wondering if this may be the problem: when I bought him, he had been living in his own 10 gallon tank for as long as I had seen him in the store (about two months) Could he not be used to co habitating, and therefore never school with my existing reds? What do you guys think.. is he worth keeping, or should I give him to someone who can keep him in his own tank

i'm sure things will be alright once he settles in, if you want to, you could try moving all your decor around next time you do a water change. they can go quite awhile without eating, so i wouldn't worry too much about that unless he starts showing signs of weight loss

it's totally normal...piranha can take days to months to settle down and get use to the envoriment depending on individual fish.

piranha also can go with out food for months, so give him some time. but do keep feeding them as your schedule, he will eat when he's ready.

Time is the key..

Thanks everyone, I think I am just going to give him more time. I don't think I'm gonna get anymore cause i only have a 55 and i think 4 is pushing it as it is, however after visiting shark aquarium, today i may have to consider getting a new tank for a 15" rhom :headbang2
