Hey all, I'm going to set up my 2nd saltwater tank. However, the first one I set up was using the fluval edge (worst money ive spent in quite some time lol) I wanted to do a nano reef, and it worked for a bit, but lighting was the main problem, that and tank maintenance due to the tiny hole to try and work around.

Anyways, I have a newly acquired 50 gal tank, 25" L x 24" T x 18" D

Im hoping to set it up with a number of coral, including soft and hard. I was thinking maybe a dwarf lionfish as the main fish . Whats the best set up? Filter, lighting, do I need a sump, etc.?

Thanks!

You don't NEED a sump, but I would suggest one. Second, you want a lionfish? Maybe you should skip corals and do a FOWLR tank....:nilly:

As for lighting, again depends on stock. I like MH, but it's preference. I'd run a 250 on that size tank.

My honest opinion is you should decide on stock before worrying about lighting, filtration, skimmers, media reactors, etc...

Get your stock list finalized, then post this question again. You'll get a lot more specific answers.

oh alright, i thought since i was asking a setup question about filters i was supposed to post in here, I will move to appropriate forum :)
