I am in the process of getting a new 75 gal tank. I have a 30 gal that I have a Magnum 350 on. If I move it with its current media and some of my larger rock pieces to the 55 will it speed up the cycle process? If so by how much?

And is it enough filtration by itself? It is rated for 100 gal. I am going to put cichlids in it.

or how about takeing 50% of your water from your 55gal, add to your 75gal, then your doing a 50% H2O change in your 55gal and speeding up your cycle of your 75gal.

as for your filteration, it might be good depending on what fish your getting.

if you already have seasoned filter media in the magnum filter, you really shouldn't need to cycle. just don't add all your fish all at once. do it gradually. and keep an eye on your parameters.

:iagree:, Remember your actually cycling the filter, not the tank. You did de-chlor the new water right? Adding some water from the 55g won't hurt either (extra nutrients for the filter while slowly adding fish).

Don't add more bio-load (fish etc.) than the filter was originally compensating for.

Are the fish coming from the 55g or 30g?

I'm a little confused. Are you cycling the 55 you're talking about? Or a 75?

Was it a typo or do you have 3 tanks you're talking about?

Ditto that.

also. Putting a filter cycled for a 30 onto a 55 could create a short "mini-cycle" since you are adding more water volume. Maybe not, but check your parameters daily to make sure.

Using water from the established tank might help a little bit, but the water itself really doesnt harbor that much bacteria and wouldnt help much at all. But it wouldnt hurt if you wanted to do that too.

It was a typo. It is a 75. The fish are coming from the 30, plus I will be getting more to round out the numbers. I plan on just adding the fish I have (5 - 2 to 3" cichlids, 1 bristlenose), then 6 more after I find out if any are males so the ratio will be right.
