Wanting to get some thoughts on the design of my new 55 gallon wet/dry for my 180 gallon tank. There is already two holes in the back top of the tank for the overflow and i'm either thinking of running both to their individial socks in the wet/dry and running them into a T fitting into one sock.

Just trying to get some ideals...i even flirted with putting an overflow in each side of the wet/dry and have the return in the middle...decisions, decisions

why not have each drain goto it's own drawer-style wet/dry? have them on each side of the 55g and the pump/heaters/etc in the middle?

I was thinking of that....but i really want the extra space in the middle for extra media or maybe and little grow out area. Having two areas for bio-balls will take away from that.

Heres one i made a while back... simular to what you want, but minus the filter socks...

Yes, I like that design, very similiar and just maybe add an extra chamber for my socks. I'm going to be running two ac110's on the back also for mechanical and really debating on needing the socks or not in the sump if i'm going to have those for mechanical. That would even give me more room for bio in the sump or a bigger middle area.....

I'm thinking that the socks aren't necessary with my ac110's and probably a canister also....any thoughts?

Best use of available space is going vertical with your media.
Would be a bit of a head scratching session, if you wanted to run socks, but think it is possible.
Either the plastic drawer or bucket in a bucket could be done.
The drawer style would make sock use a bigger headache than I would want. If I was going that route I would use some reusable sponge material and smile with how easy it is to change.
I like the idea of having the media at both ends and a large center open.
Grow out, plants, algae scrubber, yadda-yadda.
Lot`s of things a guy could use that center for.
Good luck.

Why not remove the panel next to the sock? Let it directly overflow into the W/D
