so, i just got a 55 gallon. 4 feet long, 1 foot width, and about 1 1/2 tall. i need to get a filter and heater an all that good stuff. but for now, i wanna think about what to get. i have a 33g community. so now i want a big fish. but i dont know whats big, but small enough to fit in a 55g. and i want something cool too. not like an oscar or pacu or whatever.

how big do tiretrack eels, or fire eels get? would they fit? or do they get too big?? clown knives? i dunno what else.. what would you reccomend? and prolly somethign i could hand feed or pet cuz i always saw videos of people hand feeding arowana and stuff and that it was cool... and i know those get way too big. either that or something really vicious that i wouldnt even consider putting my hand in...but i dunno anything like that

but yeah, whatever you recommend, could you also put what else they get along with? like..the smaller fish to make it look nicer and less boring? and most of em get along with all plecos right?? and the other way around?

thanks!

but those are so....plain. not the colors really. i dunno. i want something...i dunno. you knwo what i mean? not just some big ordinary fish..

I know exactly what you mean.

A few ideas from me:

*African Brown Knifefish* -- you could get a 2-3 of them depending on what else you have for tankmates. They are really cool, and they usually stay under 10".

*African Butterfly Fish* -- again, you could a get a few of them. These are top-level swimmers, who are almost always on the surface. They will stay under 6" usually. A big plus is they would work with the African Brown Knifefish.

*Bichirs* -- Just look them up. Specifically Polypterus ornatipinnis, and Polypterus senegalus. On the larger end of the scale as far as possibilites for the tank, but worth a look for something 'different'.

Just a few... Ask for more and you shall recieve. :D

Some smaller cichlids - like Blue or yellow acara, rainbow cichlid, Firemouths

Maybe some Golden Wonder killifish - theyre pretty feisty little guys

Small catfish like Bumble Bee catfish - a nice group of like 6-8 of them w/ some upper level fish

Maybe some Angel fish?

Im setting up my 60 gal tank and I have a pair of peacock gobies..They're midgit fish though...LOL.Would ornate polys actually be happy in a 55 gal? They grow to 50+cm...

you might get away with a single oscar, if you want to do a single fish tank.

i would do
5x butterfly fish
1x senegal bichir (ornates are to big)
and 1x african knife!

Bichirs! or gulpers are great just if you get gulpers have an elaborate filtration system. Needlefish leaf fish , red devils , an oscar. Grow out some clown loaches you have alot to work with contrary to what many monster fish keepers may tell you.
