Just Got a 55 to replace my 40, I am going with a Africa Congo theme, wish I could go bigger but I rent and that's the limit.

Got rid of almost everything I had in the 40 already.

I now have a 4" Senigal bichir and a 3" leaf fish

Just went to my LFS and they have what I want to add to round it out. I know they are compatible temperament wise

3 Ropefish, everything I have read you get the best behavior with 3 or more
6 congo tetras, ditto but 6 or more
2 african butterflys, minimal bio load and stay up top near floating plants

I have leftover canister filters and TONS of Plants, decorations, wood and Rocks from a fairly big setup before I moved and had to leave my big tank behind. what I am getting at is I can over-filter and over decorate/"plant" to an extreme level and I don't mind a lot of water changes. Its more of a matter of fish getting along comfortably enough. I am always willing to give up fish if something ends up incompatible or becoming overcrowded due to growth and the LFS is really good about giving credit when I can't sell.

I have read many threads that say this is OK and many that this is too much. Just wanting some thoughts from people with similar setups to overstock cops and people who max out stock. probably going to go for it regardless but I want to hear all the views. I will post some pics as I stock it.

I know I don't post much but I lurk a lot, and am an avid fish keeper. Thanks everyone.

Looks fine to me. That's not much bioload.
I put more than that in my 60. Just feed only once a day and the filtration will keep up fine.

Think I could get away with 4 ropes, they are very cool and are definitely the stars of the tank I want. Happy with 3 but the more the better.
