I have a 55 long and I want to change it from gravel to sand. I have a HOB filter as well as a pump for extra water circulation. Am I going to need additional equipment? Thank you on advance!

When you put sand in the tank make sure you wash it very well and when you are doing your water changes to turn off your hob filter/s and also have something on the intake of your hob to prevent it from sucking up sand. What i did was wrapped my intake up with some of the fiber cloth you can get at a fabric store for blankets or quilts and when your water is clear again and there isn't little sand particles floating around you can remove it if you would like and also when you do water changes make sure to turn them off as sand can get into the impeller and damage it.

Are you doing warm water fish or cold water fish? You may need to buy a heater. Are you going to have live plants in this tank? If so you will want to invest in a lighting.

I converted from gravel to play sand for my 90 gL. 50 Lbs. bag of play sand for 5 bucks from home depot. you do have to wash it about 30 times though.

African cichlid community, now I have one Midas and one red zebra and one pleco. They have all out grown the tank so am trying to sell then New stock
