Hi guys, i just recently got hold of a 6ftx2ftx2.5ft tank with a sump filter with bio balls. I actually got the tank 2nd hand, so its not brand new but its still in good condition. This is my first sump setup and I'm not quite sure how everything works, and was wondering on some tips on this type of filtration. Also wanted to know if it was as good as some people Ive talked to have made it out to be.

The sump tank only has two chambers, one which takes up 3/4 of the sump tank, and holds the bio balls and other media and the other 1/4 of the tank for the sump pump and i guess a heater. So its not as intricate as some I've seen on youtube.

But here's a rough drawing of how it is, just to give you an idea.

Before i got the tank, it was working and running but the the filter was admittedly not cleaned for about a year. So, i decided i would just start everything from scratch so i cleaned out everything, removed bio balls and rinsed them off, scrubbed the sump tank down (without soap of coarse), replaced the mechanical media (filter floss/wool).. While i was cleaning everything.. there was like hundreds.. if not thousands upon thousands of tiny worm creatures i came across.. i don't know if these are beneficial to the whole biological side or whatever.. but they were among all the scum which i also removed. So yeah i cleaned it all out.. but I'm pretty sure there are probably a few more of the worm things hiding away in the bio balls. Also, on the outside of the glass, there is really bad like water stains, which i can't remove by simply scrubbing, i was just wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of this?

Nothings Running yet.. the tanks not even set up or anything.. no water.. I'm starting everything from the beginning.. going to recycle the tank and start from scratch. Just got everything yesterday.

So was just looking for some advice and tips on sump filtration.
Thanks in advance.
Mikey :)

Thanks Danny monster, Worked like a charm actually. I was worried it was going to scratch the glass but yeah it worked =)
