Hello guys, I recently just purchased a new 75 gallon tank 48x18 with wooden stand. I have yet to purcahse filters, lighting, pumps ect. Im hoping some of you can point me into the right direction before I start buying stuff. I plan to keep baby crappie, yellow bass, pumpkin seed, laregmouthbass, 1 channel catfish ect. Is 75 gallons enough to hold these fish? I dont plan to have more than 8 fish in the tank and they will all be fry's. What kind of filtering system/setup should I run?

Ok guys, I must apologize for my newbiness. After a 30 minute researching threads, I am now a pro (lol). So now my plans have changed accordingly. For my 75 gallon set up, I will keep only 2 crappie fry's and a baby bullhead catifsh, maybee a pair pumpkin seeds instead (catfish produce too much waste). LMB and yellow bass are too aggressive.
I will use an Marineland BIO-Wheel Powerfilter Emperor 400. Maybee 2 of them. 1 pleco and 1 crawfish.

i think crappie and bullheads get too big. but a pumpkin seed would sound great. they have great coloration. i too have the same tank dimensions looking for native sp. of fish to keep ;)

Do your fish have to be big fish? A 75 gallon tank would be great for keeping several smaller fish like dwarf sunfish (blue spotted, black banded) Madtoms, darters, various chubs and shiners or even red fin pickerels.

Yes, I am fascinated by Crappie. I think they are just one of the most beautiful native freshwater fish. Can I get madtoms in Texas?

If you plan to keep crappie and bullhead cats you might think in getting at least a 240 gallon tank in the near future, but as fry you should be fine in the short run....

Yeah I just got my tank set up this weekend! I got 2 x 2 inch Crappies, 1 x 1 1/2 inch yellow striped bass, 1 x 3 inch channel catfish, 2 x 1 1/2 inch Plecostomus. Overcrowded?

Plecos will get big, the Channel even bigger. Avoid the crayfish because it will probally go after the plecos and cat at night.

What kind of filtration are you running?

I think im going to get rid of the channel catfish. Plecos I bought at the petshop for $1.99 each. Probably give them away once they get too big. They arent native anyways so its been bothering me. Crayfish in my tank are there for just feeding purposes. Crappies LOVE them.

The filter im using is a Marineland Emporer 400

Here are the baby crawfish, there about 1 cm long. I can litterally catch thousands of them.

For those fish, I would definitely up the filtration. I would as least get a second Emperor or other big HOB and also maybe a canister filter.
