Doing water changes
Ok so i got a 75 gallon tank and stand at the petco sale. The one where you buy an allglass stand they include the tank for free and i was told 75 as large as they could go cause i would of got a 125 or bigger if i could special order. So I have the tank, stand and an XP3 need to get a heater and top. Now im wanting to make this my Jaguar tank:headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2

So i was wondering Im not going to get just 1 im going to get like 8 for the tank see if i can get a pair if not ill just see who has the nicest coloring and give the rest away to my LFS. Does anyone have a recomendations for this doing this cause this is the 1st time im trying to getting a mating pair. I have mating pair of convicts (horny little bastards) that was easy but Jaguars are new to me Im going to give them plenty of hiding places but what else do i need to do to get a pair?

Basically is there anything i can do to improve my chances of getting a pair and do i need to give them a ton of hiding places?

Sorry for the long post im just excited im getting a Jaguar soon

Well first off, I would add another HOB filter such as an emporer 400 or penguin 330 once they/it gets to a larger size. Also, just because they are little don't expect them to get along. Maybe it was just my juvies but I had 7 in a 75 gallon about an inch to 2 inches and they were lip locking like mad and all but like two ended up completly black. Now I have the largest in a 75, and the next two most dominant ones in my 55 who are getting along really well. So yes, I would say go with a lot of deco while yor deciding on who to keep. As for them pairing off I cant help you as mine arn't big enough yet either. You won't regret choosing jags! I love mine so far. Very interesting fish IMO. The two in the 55 are always out on the left side of the tank (right onside the 75) and "watching" the other fish and begging me for food. The larger one is the same way but he hides a little more, but I think I would hide too (there is a pair of convicts in there. female about an inch and the male about 2 1/2 inches. As a matter of fact, out of curiosity I stuck my hand in the tank and moved towards their fry and that 2 1/2 inch fish had the nerve to actually bite me! it was great haha).

Im figuring the Xp3 should be good until they get about 5 inches then ill add an Acquaclear 110 just for the extra filtration. With enough hiding places that dont face each other so there hopefully there wont be as many territorial disputes. Im figuring it will take awhile to get them to pair up.

Whats there growth rate? how long until they are like 6-8 inches? Ive heard that Jaguars are comparable to Oscars as far as owner recognition and hand feeding?

how come my local petco doesnt have this sale??!!!:irked:

They are great fish! They will get 8" in no time. Probably around 4-6 months if you're keeping up with water changes and stuff.

A Jag won't get too big for a 75?

I would get at least 8 or 9 jags...the odds of getting a pair or 2 is good..I would have lost of rocks..or pvc tubes are easy to clean and cheap to make into cave...and feed them meaty foods...to condition them throughout there lives..and do regular waetr changes to help them grow fast

Im wondering if i should get most of them from different stores or just get them all from the same store
